Have a break: Talking total well-being with Nestlé
Published by: LifeWorks,
For the past 23 years, LifeWorks by Morneau Shepell has helped Nestlé support the total well-being of thousands of people across a range of industries.
Nestlé is a diverse operation with 3,500 employees in Canada and over 320,000 employees worldwide, with businesses ranging from nutrition to confectionary to coffee, ice cream, water and nutrition.
Manufacturing is a large part of the operation and over time the company has invested a lot of effort into making the work environment safe. Initially this focused on physical safety measures such as putting guards on equipment so that people go home with the same number of fingers and toes. But in acknowledgement that a person’s wellness is much bigger than that, the company’s overall health strategy in Canada has become focused on the mental health and physical health of employees both in the work environment as well as in their personal lives.
“We spend a good chunk of our lives in the workplace. So we want to make sure that we help people in their life journey and there’s a lot of things that happen outside the workplace as well. Well-being is all encompassing for us, it’s not just about physical health,” says Alastair Macdonald, Senior VP of HR at Nestlé Canada.
In 2018, Nestlé reached position 29 in the Forbes World’s Best Employers list.
Over 12 months, LifeWorks by Morneau Shepell helped Nestlé reduce absenteeism by 52% and delivered over 2,100 hours of clinical support.
